Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. The Technology is non-intrusive X-ray devices using ionizing radiation, software, and hardware to create a display for an operator of a density-based picture that outlines shapes and material types contained in baggage, parcels, or other containers. This Technology is designed to be effective against conventional explosives or incendiary weapons to include improvised explosives. Also included in the Technology are associated products and services such as: operator training; system installation and integration; preventative maintenance; warranty and maintenance services; spare parts; personnel qualifications; technical manuals; image interpretation aids; system removal; peripherals; and software and hardware upgrades.
Rapiscan Systems, Inc. Approved: August 22, 2023 \| Expires: August 31, 2028 Rapiscan Systems, Inc. and its subsidiaries provide Cargo and Vehicle Inspection Systems. The Technology is a line of devices that use X-ray radiation to scan vehicles, containers, rail, and cargo for threats. The Technology can be configured to use backscatter technology if desired. Technology also includes installation, training (operation, maintenance, and safety), warranty, maintenance, repair services, and the qualified field personnel to perform such services.
Itemiser DX Approved: August 21, 2023 \| Expires: August 31, 2028 Rapiscan Systems, Inc. provides Itemiser®2, Itemiser®3, and Itemiser®DX. The Technology consists of three portable, lightweight, desktop trace detectors that detect microscopic particles of a broad range of explosives on clothing, luggage, or other surfaces that may have contacted explosives. The Technology also includes user manuals and the procedures defined therein.
American Science & Engineering, Inc. Approved: February 10, 2023 \| Expires: February 28, 2028 Rapiscan Systems provides Gemini X-ray inspection systems. The Technology is a line of X-ray inspection systems that use transmission and backscatter scanning methods to inspect parcels, packages, luggage, bags, containers and other similarly sized objects for organic and inorganic anomalies. The determination of whether an anomaly is a threat is dependent on the customer’s concept of operations, and outside the scope of the Technology.
