Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. See below for a list of approved technology certifications.

URS Corporation’s Threat and Vulnerability Assessment Services protect public infrastructure (e.g., bridges, dams, tunnels, and transit systems) from acts of terrorism throughout the United States.  These services provide customers with recommendations on potential areas for terrorist threats and the appropriate solutions to lessen or mitigate those threats specific to the site being reviewed.


The Boeing Company: Airport Baggage Handling System (ABHS)

The Boeing Company's Airport Baggage Handling System (ABHS) is an automated in-line system to provide intelligent routing of baggage in response to threat determinations made by TSA-supplied equipment and security personnel.


The Wackenhut Corporation: Consulting and Risk Management Services

Approved: April 21, 2005 | Expires: April 30, 2010

The Wackenhut Corporation’s Consulting and Risk Management Services are a vulnerability assessment and countermeasure planning tool for public and private sector customers.


HDR Security Operations, Inc.: HDR Security Services - Planning

Approved: April 21, 2005 | Expires: March 31, 2010

HDR Security Operations, Inc. provides the HDR Security Services – Planning (HSS-P). The Technology is available to operators of existing and planned critical infrastructures. It consists of system assessments and master planning services.

International Business Machines Corporation: First Responder Interoperability Solution

International Business Machines Corporation’s First Responder Interoperability Solution (FRIS) connects multiple government agencies through existing computer systems by using a web-based hub that allows users to send messages to other agencies or jurisdictions regardless of their existing systems or equipment.


Covenant Aviation Security, LLC: Private Screening Services

Approved: April 18, 2005 | Expires: April 30, 2010

Covenant Aviation Security, LLC’s Private Screening Services consists of trained and skilled personnel to operate screening equipment, conduct pre-board passenger screening, carry-on and checked luggage and accessible property screening to prevent prohibited items from entering the sterile area of the airport.

The Wackenhut Corporation’s Security Services provides physical security services at commercial, government, and government-related facilities that are designed to envision and defend against possible terrorist scenarios, deny terrorists access to secured facilities, and to respond to terrorist related security breaches.


Lockheed Martin Corporation: Marine Traffic Management System

Lockheed Martin Corporation’s Marine Traffic Management (MTM) System provides situational awareness of maritime domain events in port and coastal zone areas on an integrated geographic display for shore-based port security and traffic control purposes.


Thermo Electron Corporation: EGIS, EGIS II, and EGIS III Systems

Approved: March 15, 2005 | Expires: March 03, 2010

Thermo Electron Corporation's EGIS, EGIS II, and EGIS III Systems is a product line of trace explosives detection systems and associated support and operations services that use gas chromatography and chemiluminescense to detect sub-microgram traces of (nitro-based) explosives.
